For several years now, LinkedIn has been booming when it comes to B2B prospecting. LinkedIn offers several features to allow everyone to build their network and develop their branding: profile picture, cover photo, posts…
What is the ideal format for a LinkedIn post? What are the stakes for companies? What are the rules set by LinkedIn?
In this blog post, we will focus on the size, dimensions, and formats of your posts, your images, and intra-post links.
What size for your LinkedIn post?
For a classic post (text + image), LinkedIn will display a maximum of 500 characters. If you insert an intra-post link, an image, or a video, then only the first 100 characters will be displayed, followed by the tag “Read more”.
Each click on your publication corresponds to an engagement. Each engagement improves your Social Selling Index, the reach of your publications, and therefore lead generation.
To optimize your engagement, unlike LinkedIn cold messages, it is therefore recommended to write long posts, by skipping lines, to tease the user as much as possible.

What format for a link in a LinkedIn post?
Posts with intra-post links are the most effective. Indeed, inserting a link in your post allows you to redirect the user to a page external to LinkedIn, such as your website or a blog article.
However, internet users are much more likely to click on a link if they are encouraged to do so!
To help them, you can add a short sentence that encourages action and acts as a conversion catalyst for your post.

What size for your LinkedIn post image?
By default, when you create a link, an image of 1200×627 pixels is generated as an illustration.
However, you have the option to manually select an image of your choice. Make sure the image is the one you really want and that its quality is optimal on all screens.
Caution: if your image is too large or too small, it will be resized by LinkedIn and may not be displayed correctly.
To avoid this problem, it is recommended to choose an image in JPG or PNG format, and not to exceed 100 KB.
What size for your LinkedIn post video?
LinkedIn now allows you to add videos to your posts by clicking the “Add a video” button (discover our guide on the guidelines for automation on LinkedIn).
However, it is important to respect certain dimensions for your video to be displayed correctly in the post.
In its guidelines, LinkedIn recommends a video in MP4 format, with a minimum resolution of 640×360 pixels. The video should not exceed 10 MB and must be accompanied by a title and a description.
LinkedIn also offers a new feature called “Live Video”, which allows you to broadcast live videos on your profile or company page.
What size for your LinkedIn profile picture?
The LinkedIn profile picture is an essential element to stand out and be noticed by other users.
It is therefore important to choose a quality photo, respecting the dimensions recommended by LinkedIn: 400×400 or 1200×1200 pixels, depending on the desired resolution.
To optimize your visibility, it is also recommended to use a white background for your LinkedIn photo, and to add a logo or cover image to your company page.
What size for your LinkedIn cover photo?
The cover photo of your company page is an excellent way to stand out and attract the attention of internet users.
As with the profile picture, it is important to choose a quality image, respecting the dimensions recommended by LinkedIn: 1400×425 pixels.
Caution: to create an attractive banner, simply respecting the format is not enough.
It is also important to choose an image related to your activity, not to hesitate to change your cover photo regularly to remain visible, to include a logo, a creation with attractive colors… you can find all our guidelines in our guide on the LinkedIn banner.
If you have any doubts about the format of your photos, you can resize them using a resizer like Promo.

What size for company page photos on LinkedIn?
The homepage photo of your company is the main element of your page and must therefore comply with your brand image.
The format of your cover photo for the company page is 1128×376 pixels.
For images you post on your company page feed, LinkedIn requires a format of 900×600 pixels (important note: you cannot send images in your LinkedIn connection requests).
