Your LinkedIn profile is your digital business card and the first impression potential connections will have of you. A well-optimized profile significantly increases your connection acceptance rates.

Focus on these key elements:

  • Profile photo: Use a recent, professional, and approachable headshot
  • Cover image: Choose an image that clearly communicates your field of expertise at first glance
  • Professional experience: Keep your work history current and highlight key projects and achievements

Create a value-driven content strategy

Building a strong network starts with establishing yourself as a thought leader in your industry. When you consistently share valuable insights, people naturally want to connect with you to stay updated on your expertise.

Develop content around these themes:

  • Market news and industry trends
  • Best practices and methodologies in your field
  • New tools and technologies worth adopting
  • Solutions to common day-to-day challenges your audience faces

Beyond creating original content, actively engage with your peers' posts by leaving thoughtful comments that showcase your expertise.

Define your ideal target audience

Before you start reaching out, you need to be crystal clear about who you want in your network. Random connections won't help you achieve your business goals – strategic ones will.

Ask yourself: "Who would benefit most from my content and expertise?" Then create specific audience segments based on:

  • Job titles and functions: Focus on decision-makers in your target departments
  • Seniority levels: Separate junior and senior profiles to tailor your messaging appropriately
  • Shared interests: Look for common events, groups, or connections

Keep each audience segment to around 100 contacts maximum – this ensures you can maintain a personal touch in all your outreach.

Import and organize your target lists

Now it's time to upload the carefully defined audience segments you created in Step 4.

Choose your import method based on your data source. On LGM you can choose from:

  • CSV files
  • Sales Navigator searches or lists
  • LinkedIn basic searches
  • LGM’s native database

Pro tip for warmer prospects: If you've been active on LinkedIn and creating content, consider targeting people who have already engaged with your posts, attended your events, or followed your company page. You can import these leads directly from LGM if you have the post or the event link.
