Clay MCP: What It Does and How to Connect It

TL;DR

Clay has an official MCP server that lets you find and enrich prospects inside Claude

– Its 7 tools find and enrich contacts at a company or from a list, research and enrich companies, and add data points

– Connect it at api.clay.com/v3/mcp, with 500 bonus credits to start

– Clay, your CRM and La Growth Machine are the three pillars of outreach: Clay finds and enriches, the CRM stores, LGM sends, with a native Clay-LGM two-way sync

Clay has an official MCP server, built by Clay. It brings prospecting and enrichment into a Claude conversation: find and enrich contacts at a company, enrich a list you already have, research target companies, and add data points, without leaving the chat. In practice it can:

  • find and enrich contacts at a target company
  • enrich a list of contacts you already have
  • research and enrich a company
  • add contact and company data points

Ask something like “Find VP-level finance leaders at Okta who joined in the last 6 months,” and Clay returns enriched results right in the conversation. It works with Claude, ChatGPT (OpenAI), and other assistants that support the Model Context Protocol.

This guide covers what the Clay MCP does, how to connect it, and the biggest play: pairing Clay with La Growth Machine to enrich and send, all from one assistant.

What is the Clay MCP

The Clay MCP server is Clay’s official implementation of the Model Context Protocol, the open standard that lets AI applications talk to external systems. It exposes Clay’s contact databases and enrichment providers to an assistant.

So instead of describing the data you want, you ask for it, and Clay finds and enriches it in the conversation.

It works with Claude, ChatGPT (OpenAI), and other assistants that support the Model Context Protocol.

What the Clay MCP lets you do

The server ships 7 tools, focused on finding and enriching. Grouped:

  • Find and enrich contacts – find and enrich contacts at a company, or enrich a list of contacts you already have.
  • Find and enrich companies – research and enrich a target company.
  • Add data points – add contact and company data points to fill out a record.
  • Credits and searches – check available credits and retrieve an existing search.

A few examples:

  • “Find VP-level finance leaders at Okta who joined in the last 6 months and enrich their emails.”
  • “Enrich this list of 200 contacts with verified emails and phone numbers.”
  • “Research this account and surface a recent funding or hiring signal.”
What the Clay MCP lets you do: find contacts, enrich data, research companies

How to install the Clay MCP

Setup runs over OAuth, and Clay gives every account 500 bonus credits to test.

  • Connect your account. Point your MCP client at https://api.clay.com/v3/mcp and authenticate. See the Clay MCP documentation.
  • Use it in ChatGPT and Codex too. OpenAI supports MCP, so you can add this server in ChatGPT through connectors or in OpenAI Codex.

The outreach stack: Clay + your CRM + La Growth Machine

The teams that consistently book meetings run on three tools, each doing one job well.

  • Clay is the data layer. It finds the right people and enriches them with verified emails, phone numbers, and signals.
  • Your CRM is the source of truth. HubSpot, Attio, Salesforce, or Pipedrive holds the record and the pipeline. See the HubSpot MCP for the CRM side.
  • La Growth Machine is the execution layer. It runs the multichannel sequences across LinkedIn and email, and replies.

The glue matters: La Growth Machine has a native, two-way integration with Clay, so enriched contacts flow straight into an audience without a CSV in the middle. With all three connected to the assistant, one prompt can go from “find these people” to “they are enriched, in the CRM, and in a sequence.” See the La Growth Machine integrations.

The outreach stack: find in Clay, enrich in Clay, sync to your CRM, launch in La Growth Machine

Concrete use cases: enrich, then send with La Growth Machine

This is where the Clay MCP earns its keep. Clay finds and enriches, La Growth Machine sends, and the native sync keeps the two in step.

Build and enrich a target list, then launch

What it produces

A clean, enriched audience in La Growth Machine and the multichannel sequence to work it, from a single brief.

Example output of the skill that writes the sequence:

Multichannel sequence · 5 touches

Cold outbound to Heads of Sales at French B2B SaaS startups. Lead angle: “your reps spend 40% of the week on manual prospecting.”

Day 0Profile visit + connection note
Day 1Email opener — problem-first, no pitch
Day 3LinkedIn DM — proof point + soft CTA
Day 5Email follow-up — new angle, 2-line
Day 8Break-up email — direct meeting ask

Prompts to try:

  • Find VP-level finance leaders at Series B SaaS companies, enrich their emails, and push them to a new La Growth Machine audience.
  • Write a four-step LinkedIn and email sequence for that audience and launch it.

See the Multichannel Campaign Builder skill.

Fill the gaps in an existing audience

What it produces

A higher-coverage audience: Clay enriches the missing emails and phone numbers before you launch, so fewer leads stall.

Prompts to try:

  • Take my “Inbound demo no-shows” audience and enrich every contact missing a professional email.
  • Flag the contacts Clay still cannot enrich so I can exclude them.

Research an account, then personalize

What it produces

A personalized opener grounded in a real signal, not a guess. Clay surfaces the hook, La Growth Machine sends it.

Prompts to try:

  • Research these 20 accounts, find a recent hiring or funding signal, and draft a tailored first message for each.
  • Personalize the opener of my sequence with the signal Clay found per account.

Refresh and re-enrich on a cadence

What it produces

A list that stays current: re-enrich for job changes and new signals, then re-engage the ones worth a fresh touch.

Prompts to try:

  • Re-enrich my pipeline audience and tell me who changed companies this quarter.
  • Queue a re-engagement sequence for the contacts who moved into a target role.

Tips and security

Clay enrichment runs on credits and reaches contact data, so be deliberate.

  • Watch your credits. Enrichment consumes credits, so scope the list before you run a large job, and check available credits first.
  • Verify before you send. Enriched emails are not all equal, so let La Growth Machine handle deliverability and keep your sender healthy.
  • Connect a least-privilege account. The assistant inherits its access to your Clay workspace.
  • Use trusted connectors. Clay’s connector is official, built by Clay.
